Biocomposites develops, manufactures and markets synthetic calcium composite devices for tissue regeneration. Leading edge, proprietary technologies are bioengineered to mimic in-vivo the composite structure of human bone.
Biocomposites technologies, developed over more than a decade of research, have been designed by a team of bioceramic and medical polymer specialists with a combined experience of more than fifty years. Bilok® composite, represents the biomedical fields’ first synthetic calcium based technology in sports medicine to receive CE Mark and market clearance by the U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration.
Next generation biomaterials such as geneX® and Biosteon® represent a major breakthrough in the treatment of bone disorders and soft tissue injuries, through our developments in the control of surface chemistry to direct cell activity. Biocomposites absorbable devices are used globally by surgeons and clinicians to regenerate bone in fractures, the spine and in cases involving bone loss due to trauma, disease or surgery. Our on-going research and development programmes are co-ordinated with universities and hospitals internationally to engineer new synthetic, absorbable scaffolds for the regeneration of bone and cartilage tissue.

A focussed research programme has developed Allogran-R, a highly consistent, polycrystalline and porous ß tri-calcium phosphate bone substitute. Biocomposites’ proprietary process provides a synthetic and multiparous granular matrix with outstanding biocompatibility. Allogran-R, ß tri-calcium phosphate is fully resorbed through dissolution and cell mediation to be replaced by new bone. Extensive research has shown a complete non-toxic and favourable immunological reaction to the ß tri-calcium phosphate. Studies also show its conversion in-vivo to hydroxyapatite – the mineral constituent of natural bone. Early cases of delayed union have shown Allogran-R to fully resorb concurrently with its replacement by new bone.
geneX is a new concept in synthetic, fully resorbable bone graft, conferred with a property unique to bone void fillers, Zeta Potential Control (ZPC™). geneX is also engineered with SmartPores, which produce a developing macroporosity, drawing in cells and nutrients as the graft is absorbed. Applied as an injectable paste, geneX can be contoured to the surgical site, and sets in-situ at body temperature to an exceptional compressive strength.
Stimulan® implant grade calcium sulphate is a synthetic biocompatible bone graft material that completely resorbs, to be replaced by new bone. It has a rate of resorption that corresponds with the rate of new bone growth. Stimulan calcium sulphate is produced using a proprietary synthetic process ensuring consistent and reproducible results. The physical and chemical properties are tightly controlled with no traces of potentially toxic impurities, which have been associated with naturally occurring mineral sources of calcium sulphate. Stimulan represents a major breakthrough in resorbable bone graft technology. In terms of purity and consistency, it is unrivalled by virtue of its unique and proprietary process, which has been developed by Biocomposites’ biomaterial development team over years of careful, in-depth research.
